SMS Length And Billing

SMS messages have character limits that affect how they are billed:

A standard SMS contains up to 160 characters (using GSM-7 encoding). If your message exceeds 160 characters, it will be split into multiple segments. Each segment is billed as a separate SMS. For messages with special characters (Unicode), the limit per segment is 70 characters. Concatenated messages (long SMS) include metadata, so the per-segment limit is slightly reduced (153 for GSM-7, 67 for Unicode).

Example

If you send a message with 200 GSM-7 characters, it will be split into 2 segments and billed as 2 SMS.

Tip: Always check your message length before sending to avoid unexpected charges.
